Antique + Unique Log Slit Drum

We sell mostly Gambian & Senegalese Djembe's, but also sell some Ghanian and Nigerian  drums as well.  This is a Ghana  drums, carved from a darker mahogany like wood that carves, stains, and  polishes beautifully.    This slit drum is carved from one piece,  the holes
are for sound resonance.  The ends are for standing in a rack or 
to hold the drum with.   The beater is carved of the same wood and is solid.   It creates a variety of tones depending on which side of the drum is hit.   Varieties of sounds come from hitting the drum in various spots.   The sound is not drum like but more like a musical note (say "bong").   Two or three are occasionally played together making a sound like 
a xylophone.

tuned in the late 1980's.

Beautiful natural drum, wonderful wood.   A great drum you will enjoy for a long time.  It has a patch of some sort at the ends of the large hole, but seems done at time of carving.   It plays well and looks fine.
