Small Talking Drum
with beater

We are unpacking our new offerings, a great shipment of
drums from West Africa, and they are incredible! This is one of
more unique select drums set aside for Auction. This particular
choice drum is called a "Talking Drum, Talker or Tama or
Tana".
It is a drum held in one hand or under the arm where
pressure on the strings changes the tension on the two heads causing a great variety in
the tone. It can be made to sound like many different drums, or
voices. It is a asset to any musical group.
This particular one of the smaller variety, making it
ideal for packing into suitcases, backpacks, or for young adults to learn with.
It is of the same basic design as our larger Talkers and has both
its heads made of goat skin. It measures 6+
" wide (diameter of both drum heads) and 10+" Tall.
The one shown is 6.5" dia and 11.8 "
tall.
The drum is carved from one piece of wood (Teak
or Dimba Mahogany ?) then rubbed and fitted with the two goat skin heads,
fastened with covered rings, and tied via a wound cord assembly that wraps up and down all
around the drum. It is a very unique drum and produces many wonderful different
sounds on demand. A truely interesting drum worthy of your collection!
Comes with a hand carved beater.
